Our Tweed Forum team had a great time engaging with hundreds of Scottish Borders Primary 5 pupils at last weeks’ Border Union Agricultural Society Schools Countryside Day. This brilliant annual event was attended by over 1200 children who were able to learn about the environment, farming, food production and rural life.
Our pictures show Tweed Forum’s Hamish Robertson and Emily Iles with our special catchment models. We simply add water to demonstrate how managing the land in the river catchment can influence how rainwater travels downstream and how activity like river re-meandering and tree planting can help prevent flooding and improve soil and water quality and biodiversity.
The Schools Countryside Day is part-funded by the Fallago Environment Fund, which recently awarded the event a £51,250 five-year grant.
