Landscape Enterprise Networks (LENs) bring organisations together to co-fund and implement regenerative agriculture and nature-based solutions to drive landscape resilience
The aim of Landscape Enterprise Networks (LENs) is to create a more resilient landscape in response to biodiversity loss and the climate crisis. By bringing together organisations with a common cause, across public and private sectors, LENs aim to co-fund and implement regenerative agriculture and nature-based solutions to address issues such as soil health, water quality, conservation and biodiversity, and climate change mitigation. Crucially, these solutions are also measured, reported and verified by external experts.
A LENs for the Tweed catchment had been in discussion for several years and support from the FIRNS programme (The Facility for Investment Ready Nature in Scotland) enabled 3Keel and Tweed Forum to successfully bring together several private and public sector funders to make this a reality. The Tweed LENs launched in February 2026 with funding provided by beverage company Diageo, Northumbrian Water, South of Scotland Enterprise and Scottish Borders Council, and is likely to focus on land management practices such as cover crops and minimum tillage, as well as habitat restoration measures.
The LENs model is demand-led – with funders preferentially selecting approaches that will make their businesses more resilient. Diageo, for example, as a major supporter has a strong focus on their supply chain and farms that grow barley and wheat for their whisky and vodka production. Likewise, with the Northumbrian Water contribution, the Tweed LENs is also working across the border with farms in and around the Fell Sandstone Aquifer area, where Northumbrian Water operate a borehole that supplies Berwick-upon-Tweed with drinking water.
