We’ve chosen Melrose teacher Tom Rawson as this year’s winner of our Tweed Forum River Champion Award for his campaign to reduce plastic littering and single use plastic consumption in the Scottish Borders.
He helped make St Mary’s School, Melrose Scotland’s first plastic free school and was behind the school’s recent 7Towns1River Tweed clean project which saw 196 people take part in a synchronised river clean along the banks of the Tweed.
Tom is also currently organising the Great Borders River Clean which takes place on Sunday 27 October and involves 20 towns on 6 rivers across the Scottish Borders. He has also coordinated a number of tree-planting projects.
We think Tom is a truly worthy champion and we’d like to thank him, and everyone who works alongside him on these vital projects, for all of their amazing efforts.
